HOW THIS IDEA GOT STARTED
In 2020 with full COVID restrictions in place, Emerald Owl Productions approached one of their annual light up night clients, Historic Downtown Wilson (NC), with an idea. Since holiday events everywhere were canceled, would they want to try a Christmas "Drive-In Laser Show?" The idea was met with immediate enthusiasm. Not only would it allow for an in-person experience for their residents, it could be marketed in a way to make Wilson a holiday destination.
Soon after, Allegheny County (Pittsburgh, PA) expressed interest in the idea to Emerald Owl Productions. The county decided to host their event at a large swimming pool parking lot that was closed for the season.
Then North Huntingdon Township (PA) partnered with their local school district to host a drive-in laser show at the Norwin High School parking lot.
All 3 venues sold out nearly every show and public feedback was very positive. By having tickets with a scheduled time to attend, it limited traffic and parking issues, and allowed for several shows per night.
In 2021, all three locations continued their drive-in laser shows with additional scheduled nights. A new location in Plymouth, North Carolina was organized by the NC Black Bear Festival. The show was held on a closed runway at the municipal airport, which allowed people to stay in their cars or get out to watch the show from a lawn chair.
Now in 2022, all of these locations are running their shows for a third year. EOP, an Emerald Isle based business, decided to bring the show to the Crystal Coast before it goes on the road for the holidays. The Carteret County Speedway, with racing season starting to slow down, decided to host and make the speedway the place to watch lasers this holiday season.
The experience will run November 18-19 and November 25-27, however, if ticket demand is high, additional nights will be added.
